Mission Statement:

The mission of Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation built on the foundation of respect and brotherhood, is to establish and promote a nurturing environment at the university level and beyond, through academic excellence, community service, and the celebration of the diverse Latino Culture."

On December 3, 1987, the West Coast of the United States saw a new movement the beginning of Latino Fraternities. Brought together with the purpose of addressing the shortcomings that Latino Students faced in higher education, Fifteen young men came together to form a student organization far beyond their time. With a vision of Academic Excellence, Community Service, and the Maintenance of the Latino Culture through the bonds of brotherhood, these gentlemen brought an institution onto their campus that has become one of the leading Latino student organizations on the West Coast of the United States.

Since our establishment, Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has been awarded numerous awards and recognitions throughout each respective University, communities, and most recently, nationwide recognition as the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organization's (NALFO) "Org. of the Year", in back to back consecutive years, 2008, 2009, and 2010.

The Gamma Chapter at the University of California, Berkeley was established on September 19th of 1992. Ten young men who also felt the need to create an organization which was conducive of their needs. Our distinguished founding members are: Cesar Aguilera, Dan Castillo, Subha Ghoshal, Ricardo Gonzales, Javier Oyola, David Padilla, Raul Perez, Adrian Esteban, Richard Raya and Gary Garcia-Sloan. These men are the responsbile for planting the seed of Gamma Zeta Alpha at this University, and are respectfully acknowledged today for instilling the spirit brotherhood throughout our members today.
