Pedro Parra - Greek Awards Recipient: 2008-09 Greek Man
of the Year - A number of awards were handed out in order to acknowledge the achievements of the Greek community and its
members. The highest recognitions of the night were the Greek New Members of the Year, Chapter Presidents of the Year and
Greek Men and Women of the Year awards. Greek Man of the Year shall be awarded to a greek male who exemplifies the greek
system at San Diego State and is an outstanding role-model for greeks everywhere. |

Community Service
Dia de los Reyes Toy Distribution
In association with Caliente Racetrack in Tijuana, BC helped distribute toys to poor Mexican children in celebration of Dia de los Reyes.
High School-College Preparation Conference: Committee Member, Volunteer
Sat on the committee which organized a high school conference for local San Diego Latino students. Gave participants tours of the campus, and assisted with the workshops presented geared towards informing and encouraging Latinos to pursue a higher level of education.
California State University 2002 Summit on Greek Life/Affairs-SDSU Delegate
Had a representative on behalf of Gamma Zeta Alpha and the USFC council at San Diego State. Conference brought representatives of Greek life from over 23 universities throughout California to help establish a Best Practices guideline for helping build an effective Greek community.
Children’s Hospital Auxiliary Kids Newsday-Volunteer
Organized fundraising effort for kids, soliciting donations & selling newspapers with all proceeds going to aid the auxiliary in its continuing efforts to support the needs of Childrens Hospital and Health Center of San Diego.
MESA Junior High Shadow Day-Participants
Volunteered and took a local junior high school student through the daily life of a SDSU student taking them to my classes and school activities for a day. Acted as a mentor and answered questions regarding college life.
Boys & Girls Club Mentor Day-Volunteer Big Brothers
Brothers spent a day with local San Diego children at nearby Boys & Girls Club playing games, helping with homework and talking to them.
Downtown San Diego Community Clean-Up-Participants
In association with the city of San Diego and the United Sorority and Fraternity Council, dedicated a day to help renovate downtown San Diego by removing graffiti, cleaning up trash, and painting over worn area throughout downtown.
Gamma Zeta Alpha Gentlemen’s Auction
Brothers were auctioned off raising funds for the DAR-Diabetes Assistance Resource Program. This program was established to help with people with diabetes, in which it is found highest amongst Latinos. A portion of the proceeds raised were donated to fund research for this.
Gamma Zeta Alpha Christmas Toy Drive
Every year, the Zeta Chapter brothers organize a toy drive in order to collect new, unwrapped toys for needy children. This year, brothers collected more than fifteen bags of toys from attendees. This year the toys were donated to the San Diego Childrens' Hospital.
